Shortly after its founding in 1999, Susan joined Moscarino & Treu. Susan utilizes a well-developed knowledge of medicine and strong skills in legal analysis and writing to assist clients in resolving complex medical malpractice and product liability matters. She believes that strong and thorough preparation is the key to a successful outcome.
After years of intensive care nursing, primarily in the Surgical ICU and Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU, Susan came to Cleveland to attend law school at Case Western Reserve University. During law school, she served as an editor of the law review. In 1992, she graduated summa cum laude and Order of the Coif. Following graduation, Susan clerked for the Honorable Michael S. Kanne of the U.S Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. There she learned much about the appellate process and refined her legal analysis and writing skills. Returning to Cleveland, Susan worked for four years at a large law firm providing trial support for complex product liability and medical malpractice cases and developing a successful motion/appellate practice in a variety of types of cases.
After spending a few years away from the firm starting a family, Susan returned to Moscarino & Treu in 2011 and has dedicated herself to helping the firm succeed by taking on high-level challenging legal analysis and writing work. While continuing her medical liability work, she expanded her practice to include a plethora of legal matters with the firm. Since returning, Susan has also focused on appellate work, successfully preserving trial victories and summary judgments won by the firm.
She most enjoys and excels at using motion practice to produce good results, either to produce outright wins or to encourage settlements conducive to the firm’s clients. Within the firm, Susan most appreciates the exceptional brain power and service capabilities that the firm produces, performing sophisticated work while achieving difficult-to-attain client results. Outside of the legal realm, she loves the time she spends with her family, volunteering at her children’s schools, namely as the President of the Laurel School Parent Association. When she can find the time between legal work and driving her children to activities, Susan enjoys reading – especially about history – and watching movies.
“Meticulous preparation and attention to little details are the keys to mounting the best defense and achieving the best outcome for our clients.”
